I guess, it is cool to be the first person ask questions.
I am a 20+ girl living dwon beneath, Australia. Thing is like this, I may be taking a job in Sofia for my current company. I think it is sth out of my comfort zone…yet, it is kind exciting. So my question is really basic and simple: Would I be able to survive daily life in Sofia without any knowledge of their local language??
Thanks for asking the first question! That is exciting. You can definitely survive here without knowing any Bulgarian, although I’d thoroughly recommend learning the Cyrillic alphabet so that you can orient yourself (read roadsigns etc) and recognise useful words like пица (pizza)!
I can only speak a few phrases of Bulgarian but I think my experience here has been better because people in Bulgaria are always pleasantly surprised when you at least attempt to speak their language…
I’m learning the simple phrases now with a free podcast I found on this website http://www.openculture.com/freelanguagelessons
I love this blog thankyou for giving your own humorous perspective on your exciting travels!
I’m planning to go to Sofia for the first time in a few months and this was just what I was looking for.

You don’t need pizza!
